Täsch and the Matter Valley. Zermatt itself is pedestrian and electric-vehicle only, so the car's job ends in Täsch. Plan your arrival and departure around this last road stop, and leave luggage-heavy transfers to a car with real boot space and all-wheel drive in winter.
Visp and the Valley Mouth. The drive down the Matter valley to Visp is where a grand tourer suits the Zermatt visit best. It is a summer-friendly run with smooth road surfaces, and it links the mountains to the main Rhône valley route.
Saas Valley and Saas-Fee. A separate valley reached from Stalden, with a different mood from Zermatt. Saas-Fee is also car-free, so arrange parking at the edge of the village rather than expecting to drive in.
Simplon Pass. A long, sweeping mountain road for a full day of driving, best in the summer months. If you plan to continue into Italy, confirm cross-border terms with us before you book.
Rhône Valley to Lake Geneva. The classic long alpine transfer: down the valley towards Montreux and Lausanne, ending on the lake. A comfortable, quiet-cabin car is the right choice here, especially at the end of a ski week.
