Behind the wheel

Esterel and the Corniche d'Or. Head west on the coast road past Théoule-sur-Mer and Agay, where red porphyry cliffs drop to the sea. The bends suit a lighter, more agile sports car, and an early start gives you the best light and the quietest tarmac. Lay-bys are limited, so plan photo stops in advance.

Mougins and the Grasse hinterland. Inland roads climb through Mougins and towards Grasse, trading seafront traffic for shaded lanes and village lunches. A good option for a half-day drive when the coast is busy. Village centres are tight, so park at the edge and walk in.

Antibes and Cap d'Antibes. A short run east takes you to the old port at Antibes and the villa-lined roads of the Cap. Ideal for a lunch or sunset drive in an open-top car. In peak summer, aim for mornings or late afternoons to avoid the slowest stretches.

Nice and the Corniches. Continue past Antibes to the Promenade des Anglais, then climb onto the Corniche roads above the city for wide views over the bay. This works well for a full-day grand touring plan, ending with dinner in Nice's Old Town. Use a secure car park in the centre.

Monaco. The classic destination for a supercar day out, with the Casino Square and port as the main stops. Traffic is dense around major events, so check the calendar before you go. Use the underground car parks rather than street spaces.
