Interlaken and the Thun–Brienz lakes. The most natural day out from Grindelwald is down the valley to Interlaken, then along the lake shores. Roads are well surfaced, and a grand tourer suits the lakeside stretches. Arrive early in high season, when central parking in Interlaken fills quickly.
Lauterbrunnen valley approaches. A short drive across to the valley floor, where waterfalls drop along the cliff walls. Wengen and Mürren are car-free, so the car stays at Lauterbrunnen while you continue by rail or cable car. Winter conditions call for AWD and winter tyres.
Grindelwald and the First side. Local driving here is about access: the village, the valley stations and your hotel. Plan parking around your lift or train times, and expect busier approaches at peak morning hours in ski season and on clear summer days.
Brienz and Meiringen. Continue past Interlaken along Lake Brienz to a quieter part of the Oberland. Brienz has the woodcarving tradition, and Meiringen sits at the foot of the Reichenbach Falls. A good option for guests who want fewer crowds than the Jungfrau side.
Lucerne day loop. A longer outing toward central Switzerland, best planned as a full day with a relaxed return. Check the weather and road conditions before leaving in winter. In Lucerne, use a car park near the old town rather than looking for street spaces.
