Golden Mile and Puerto Banús. The short run between Marbella town and the Puerto Banús marina suits a low, wide sports car at dinner time. Evenings and summer weekends are busy around the marina, so allow extra time and use a car park instead of circling the quayside.
Benahavís. A winding road climbs inland from the coast to a village known for its restaurants. It is a good lunch drive for a convertible or a responsive coupé. Traffic is lighter outside peak mealtimes, and the bends reward a steady pace.
Estepona Old Town. Head west along the coast to a whitewashed old town of flower-lined streets. Leave the car in a car park at the edge of the centre, since the narrow lanes are better covered on foot. Late afternoon works well for a drive back toward Marbella.
Ronda. This is the longest of the five drives, taking the mountain road from the coast to the clifftop town and its famous bridge. The route is made of curves and elevation changes, so it suits a driver who enjoys the road itself. Park outside the historic centre and walk in.
Sotogrande. Drive southwest toward the marina and the polo and golf estates around Sotogrande. The dual carriageway makes for a relaxed grand-touring run in a comfortable premium car. It is a good option for a quieter day away from the Marbella crowds.
