Pampelonne and Ramatuelle. The beach road to Pampelonne is the classic drive from Saint-Tropez, and the hill village of Ramatuelle sits just behind it. In July and August the approach slows at midday, so arriving before lunch or after the late-afternoon rush is easier. Check parking with your beach club in advance.

Gassin and the Hilltop Viewpoints. Gassin looks over the Gulf from a ridge above the vineyards. The country roads are quiet outside peak hours, which suits a relaxed morning drive in a grand tourer. The village streets are narrow, so park at the edge and walk in.

Grimaud and Port Grimaud. Across the Gulf, Grimaud's medieval lanes and the canal-lined marina of Port Grimaud make an easy half-day from Saint-Tropez. Port Grimaud keeps cars to the perimeter, so plan to park outside and explore on foot. Early evening is a good time to arrive.

Sainte-Maxime Waterfront. The coast road around the Gulf leads to Sainte-Maxime, which has a seafront promenade, restaurants and a wider choice of places to stop than Saint-Tropez itself. It works well for a lunch or dinner where you would rather avoid the port-side crowds.

La Croix-Valmer and Gigaro. South of the Gulf, this stretch of coast leads towards the Cap Taillat area, which is best reached on foot from the nearest parking. Go in the morning in summer, when roadside spaces are easier to find. It suits a longer drive away from the town.
