Chianti Classico. The road through Greve in Chianti and Panzano runs between vineyards and cypress ridges, with enough bends to make the drive part of the day. Book tastings in advance, and plan for one designated driver or a separate transfer.
San Gimignano and Val d'Elsa. The medieval towers are visible from far off, and the approach is easy to enjoy at a steady pace. Historic centres in Tuscany often limit traffic, so plan to park outside the walls and walk in.
Siena. Siena makes a clean day trip from Florence. Park outside the historic centre and walk to Piazza del Campo, as the old town has its own traffic restrictions. Keep luggage out of sight in the car.
Versilia Coast. Forte dei Marmi and Viareggio are the natural choices for a coastal day away from the hills. In summer, weekend traffic toward the beaches can build, so an early start or a midweek drive gives you a calmer run.
Mugello and the Apennine Foothills. North of Florence, the roads climb into green, quieter country around the Mugello valley, home to the Autodromo del Mugello. It suits drivers who want open tarmac rather than sightseeing stops, and it is a good option for a spirited half-day.
